Foreign and Defence

It is perhaps the most obvious tactic of the bourgeoisie, to place barriers between the working class across the globe. We can break past those barriers, show international solidarity and rise up against those forces which would oppress us.

• If we allow ourselves to ignore the cries of one group of oppressed peoples, then we bear responsibility for not working to stop these atrocities. We stand opposed to all forms of oppression and tyranny across the globe, and will work to support defensive military action where the oppressed are threatened, such as that we have supported in Rojava. We remain opposed to aggressive military actions and attempts to enforce our will, however, as reams of experience have made clear the folly of such attempts.
• Trident is a moral nightmare, a weapon so uncompromisingly destructive to both people and planet that to give such power to anyone borders on the insane - and that's not even considering the domestic costs which could be invested elsewhere. The only policy that can ever hope to be agreeable on Trident is that of unilateral disarmament, transferring the saved funds to programs such as those assisting in the mental health of former soldiers, or providing training routes such as helping move veterans from the army into teaching.
• Whilst it is never pleasant to look at the past tragedies inflicted by the British Empire, we must do so in order to understand why we have so much wealth as a country - the long and short of it being that we plundered and exploited other countries to manage it. A proper International Development program barely scratches the surface of our moral obligations to the world, but it does make a start - and we will increase Foreign Aid to 2% of GDP in order for it to be more than an slap in the face.
• The Climate Crisis is global, so insular actions will not suffice - we must work together on this matter. There is untapped access to renewable power across the globe, which would be capable of providing 24/7 renewable energy... if only the world was properly linked up. As a first step to a global solution, we will support the development of an International Electricity SuperGrid, linking up the world and making optimum use of the resources we currently have.
