As the planet continues to break down, we are watching an ecocide caused by reckless businesses and climate change. Whilst we fight those root causes, that will take time, and there are other actions we can take to tackle the devastation of our environment right now. And if we don't act, then for every second that passes, we're seeing species go extinct, biological niches destroyed, and the land we give to our future generations destroyed by greed. It's clear - we must act now!
- A grand-scale rewilding is the only way we can realistically expect to have any chance of reversing the collapse of biodiversity across the UK. Through the reintroduction of animals with key ecological niches to the UK, such as the Pine Marten and the Lynx, we can restore our collapsing biodiversity, preserving our common heritage for future generations.
- We are aware that many lack the means, whether financial or time-limited, to be able to travel and explore natural areas. As such, we will take the position of bringing nature to the people, adding to our green spaces in cities by creating urban parks and nature areas. This will not only provide access to the same experiences that others have had, but the green spaces will provide an excellent barrier against the air pollution of cities.
- Our National Parks are unique across the world, perhaps because of how much we abuse them, regularly setting them on fire to provide the conditions to hunt and maim wildlife, rather than to truly protect them. It is time that we stopped destroying nature to preserve a cruel sport, and instead we can start to truly protect our National Parks, with the end goal of obtaining recognition as IUCN Category II status, where our national parks protect functional ecosystems, whilst providing to local economies through tourism, both recreational and educational.
- We retain a healthy scepticism of 'tree-planting' goals as a way of tackling climate change, when such targets at best create ecologically dead forests, and at their worst simply help logging companies when they knock these trees back down. We can do better than just tree planting, we can do better than saplings wrapped in plastic dotted along roads. We will replace any tree planting goals with reforestation area goals, adjusting our focus towards a goal of having living forested areas across the UK.
