Infrastructure

Public Services, in Public Hands

There is no good reason, and there has never been a good reason, for vital pieces of infrastructures - often national monopolies - to be in the hands of private enterprise. We will remove the financial motives from our public services by making them public once again.

No More Stalling

As Norway is demonstrating, ending the sale of Petrol and Diesel cars by 2025 is not only completely feasible, it's perhaps the only way forward without kicking the can down the road again, and again, and again - the climate crisis isn't going to wait for us! We will follow Norway's example, ending the sales of Diesel and Petrol cars by 2025, providing support to motorists to switch over to electric vehicles.

Free Public Transport

Public transport shouldn't be a matter of making money, but instead of linking communities, and lowering our carbon output. We unequovically push for the implementation of nothing less than free public transport across the UK, no matter who you are.

Freight Rail Revolution

Freight rail not only is the most CO2 efficient way of transporting goods across the country, it also ensures that our rail infrastructure is being used at full capacity when passenger rail is not in use overnight - and it reduces the number of lorries clogging up motorways, or polluting local communities. We will bring freight rail into public hands once again, and run it for the public good, and not for profit.

Keeping you Safe

Barriers to public transport aren't just financial, but can be a side effect of wanting to feel as safe as possible. To help here, The People's Movement will reintroduce conductors onto public transport across the UK, increasing the efficiency of public transport as well as the safety.

Links both Local and National

Public Transport needs to serve everyone, not just the major cities. We will work to improve local connections such as bus lines, by removing the profit motive and focussing on community needs, whilst also developing a stronger network of links between transport hubs.
