Supporting Local Talent
Independent artists, from actors to painters to musicians, contribute a great amount to the fabric of culture in these islands. The People's Movement will ensure small artists get the respect and support they deserve, and the creative arts have sufficient funding to renew and revive literary, musical, and artistic talent in these islands.
Remembering Our History
Local museums are key for encouraging visits and local tourism to smaller towns and cities, as well as making sure there are things to do in smaller towns and cities. The People's Movement will make sure museums have adequate funding, and we will aim for no museum closures during the term.
No Honouring Slave Traders
Parliament voted to remove statues of slave owners, and the Government has failed to follow through. A TPM government would conduct a thorough removal of slave statues across the country, allowing them to be donated to local museums who could better grapple with their histories in an honest way. Encourage local governments to find alternative local historical figures to memorialize.
Supporting Local News
Regional news and regional radio are under threat from conglomerates, lowering the quality of local news to tabloid-esque clickbait and leaving local communities without local information. The People's Movement will ensure independent regional news media is kept above water, saving the local community link to news.
Bringing Football back to the People
It is time to rectify damaging Conservative policy, that once again took football away from the fans, and turned it into a way of lining shareholder pockets. We see time and time again outside owners destroy clubs - destroy communities - to asset strip them, or to win bets. A return to the fan ownership model destroyed during Conservative Government is just one way in which The People's Movement will bring communities together.
